MRAG Asia Pacific was contracted by the Solomon Islands Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources and the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Meteorology to develop Environmental Guidelines for the Development of Onshore Fish Processing Plants (EGs) within the Solomon Islands. The EGs were developed for the preparation and review of environmental impact statements (EIS) for two proposed fish processing plants on Guadalcanal. The EGs were also intended to set the scope of the environmental studies required for EISs to assess the appropriateness of construction, operation and decommissioning/rehabilitation of any fish processing facility under the Environment Act 1998 and other relevant legislation. A second stage of the project incorporated social impact assessment (SIA) guidelines into the EIA document to complete a comprehensive ESIA framework.
